Our client is currently seeking a dedicated Highways Officer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is crucial for ensuring public safety on public highways.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out daily inspections of major routes/highways in an allocated area, ensuring safety levels are maintained.
  • Inspect, record, and report highway infrastructure condition defects according to codes of practice and highways legislation.
  • Monitor, record, and report the activities of third parties working on the highway, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
  • Handle applications for vehicle crossovers and disabled bays, including site visits and detailed assessments.
  • Assist in the enforcement of highways, street works, and related legislation.
  • Input data into Council systems accurately and promptly, contributing to performance indicators.
  • Respond swiftly to complaints, ensuring efficient resolution.
  • Assist in emergencies, including the Council's winter emergency plan and other civil contingencies.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in highway inspections and infrastructure condition reporting.
  • Understanding of highways legislation and Codes of Practice.
  • Proficiency in data capture devices and associated software packages.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and report defects.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with residents, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively in response to emergency situations.
  • Competence in using IT systems for input and retrieval of information.
  • Commitment to upholding health and safety policies and practices.
