Role and Responsibilities

  • The role involves a combination of UK-wide site work (including North Wales) and office-based duties. Responsibilities focus on organising and reporting monitoring data and geoenvironmental ground investigations, with potential involvement in earthworks supervision, remediation, and site validation.

  • Supervision of fieldwork for site investigations, including service clearance, site walkovers, soil and rock logging, sampling, foundation inspections, infiltration testing, and gas and groundwater monitoring. This role includes manual handling tasks such as lifting samples and loading/unloading vehicles.

  • Landfill gas and groundwater monitoring and sampling.

  • Preparation of factual and interpretative geotechnical, contamination, and landfill monitoring reports, under the guidance of a Senior Engineer where required.

  • Support additional activities such as earthworks supervision, remediation oversight, plot validation, topographical surveys, inspection of covers and drainage runs, and general visual inspections.

  • Participation in CQA (Contractor Quality Assurance) supervision on landfill sites, including installation of monitoring and leachate wells, construction of landfill liners, and restoration layers.

  • Undertake design work in accordance with relevant standards and guidance, including British Standards, Eurocode 7, CIRIA, and NHBC.

  • Produce and coordinate site investigation programmes and associated reporting, including health and safety documentation.

  • Work closely with team members, particularly Graduate Engineers and Technicians, as well as Senior Engineers and other disciplines as required.

  • Coordinate with external professionals and contractors, managing time effectively to ensure timely project delivery.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across multiple office locations, with occasional short-term working from other offices as required.

  • Contribute to fee proposals when necessary.

  • Liaise with clients and members of the design team to ensure project outputs meet the client brief, including attendance at design team and site meetings.

Role Requirements

  • Proficient in soil and rock logging to BS5930, with the ability to train Graduate Engineers and Technicians both on site and in the office.

  • Good understanding of UK geology and hydrology, with the ability to interpret geological maps, published data, and site-specific information.

  • Strong knowledge and experience of site investigation methods and techniques.

  • Working knowledge of technical design software such as SlopeW (or similar), with good experience using Openground for logging and cross-sections. Basic CAD skills and GIS knowledge are advantageous.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for calculations and data presentation, with the ability to carry out hand checks of calculations where necessary.

  • Ability to work closely with Senior Engineers to ensure investigations and monitoring are completed accurately, efficiently, and to a high standard (training provided).

  • Strong organisational, planning, and time-management skills.

  • Full UK driving licence (pool vehicle available for site work).

  • Commercial awareness.


Qualifications

  • Degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of two years' experience in a similar engineering consultancy role or with a site investigation contractor.
