Job Title: Paint Shop Prepper (Semi-Skilled Technician)
Location: Hamble, Southampton
Hours: Early shifts - Monday to Thursday 06:00-14:15, Friday 06:00-12:00
Pay (PAYE):
- Earlies: £15.38/hr
- Overtime over 37 hrs & Saturdays: £23.07/hr
- Sundays & Bank Holidays: £30.76/hr
- Lates (20%): £18.45/hr
- Nights (25%): £19.25/hr
PAYE + Paid holiday, alternative work UMB - enquire for umbrella rates.
Role Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Paint Shop Prepper to join our manufacturing team. You will support the delivery of high-quality components by preparing surfaces, abrading painted areas, and carrying out masking tasks. This role will involve early shifts and is essential in maintaining quality standards for metallic and composite components.
You will work under minimal supervision, take responsibility for the quality of your work, and contribute proactively to problem-solving and process improvements in safety, cost, quality, and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare painted and raw surfaces for painting using manual and orbital sanding techniques
- Masking and stenciling of components in line with technical drawings and instructions
- Ensure workstations are clean and tools are stored appropriately (upholding 5S principles)
- Support quality standards and minimize waste through careful and accurate work
- Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures
- Clock and book jobs accurately
- Mix paints, fillers, and resins according to manufacturer and COSHH requirements
- Operate cure booths and monitor paint cure cycles
- Participate in training, team meetings, and mentoring of trainees when required
Candidate Requirements

- Competent in literacy and numeracy; able to read technical documentation

- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements

- Excellent timekeeping and reliability
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
- Team player with strong communication skills
- Basic IT skills
Desirable:
- Previous experience in paint preparation, aerospace, or manufacturing
- Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a related trade
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK adhering to ITAR restrictions, and must be eligible to obtain baseline security clearance.
