Our client, is currently seeking a Flood Risk Engineer to join their team. This is a full-time, temporary role for three months with a view to extend, focusing on providing technical expertise in flood risk analysis and drainage systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering Council services across flood risk analysis, including reviewing flood risk assessments and SuDS designs.
  • Responding to planning applications and contributing to the management of the Council's flood storage assets.
  • Challenging consultants and developers to design effective drainage systems that comply with local and national planning policy and legislation.
  • Monitoring and assessing new and existing drainage systems across various developments, including large residential sites.
  • Ensuring the Council meets its statutory obligations and maintains high standards of probity and conduct.
  • Participating in site visits, inspections, and handling public enquiries confidently and responsibly.
  • Working as part of the Environmental Protection and Drainage Team to reduce flood risk and review inappropriate drainage systems.
  • Undertaking practical tasks such as lifting manholes, inspecting drainage systems, or flood risk assets when required.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant professional degree/qualification or demonstrable equivalent work experience in flood risk engineering, drainage, or environmental protection.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues commensurate with the role.
  • Previous experience in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity.
  • Track record of providing efficient, effective, confidential, and professional flood risk assessment services.
  • Proficiency in IT skills, specifically using MS Office and GIS mapping systems.
  • Knowledge of MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage would be advantageous.
  • High attention to detail and diligent record-keeping.
  • Understanding of Council financial and procurement processes and a reasonable understanding of current issues facing local government.
