Our client, a renowned organisation in the rail sector, is offering an exciting contract opportunity at Birmingham Station. The role involves upgrading electrical infrastructure and enhancing operational resilience. The programme includes complex works on Low Voltage (LV) distribution, fire systems, lighting upgrades, containment, power supplies for station systems, and integration with existing railway infrastructure.
To support this work, our client is looking for an experienced Electrical CRE with strong rail experience and a proven track record in leading electrical engineering assurance in a live project environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) for all electrical (LV) works across the station regeneration programme.
- Provide engineering assurance, design approval, and compliance oversight in line with Network Rail standards and project requirements.
- Lead technical reviews, respond to engineering queries, and ensure all electrical designs meet safety, quality, and regulatory expectations.
- Support the development, review, and acceptance of Form A, Form B, and AFC design deliverables.
- Ensure all installation works follow approved designs, RAMS, and industry best practice.
- Interface with multidisciplinary teams including civils, MEP, signalling, and project management.
- Undertake site inspections, assess technical risks, and drive engineering safety.
- Manage stakeholder engagement with Network Rail, Principal Contractor, and designers.
- Provide technical leadership during testing, commissioning, and handover stages.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Experience as an Electrical CRE on rail infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of LV systems, including distribution boards, switchgear, cable routing, earthing/bonding, and station systems integration.
- Excellent understanding of Network Rail standards, CDM, and railway assurance processes.
- Ability to review, challenge, and approve electrical designs.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to liaise across multiple engineering disciplines.
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it.
- Experience with station MEP upgrades or rail station enhancement programmes.
- Competency in reviewing electrical calculations, schematics, and technical submissions.
