The Opportunity

We are working with a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy that is seeking a Chartered Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing geotechnical team. The role offers the opportunity to work on major infrastructure and complex engineering projects across the UK and internationally, within a well-established and technically strong environment.

This position would suit a motivated engineer who enjoys technical challenge, project responsibility and mentoring others, with clear opportunities for career progression.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery

  • Deliver geotechnical design and analysis for a range of infrastructure projects, including foundations, retaining structures, slopes, earthworks and ground improvement.

  • Interpret ground investigation data and produce high-quality technical reports, calculations and specifications.

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and health & safety requirements (including CDM).

Project & Client Interface

  • Act as a key member of project teams, contributing to design coordination and technical decision-making.

  • Support project delivery, including programme input, quality assurance and stakeholder engagement.

  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors and internal disciplines where required.

Leadership & Development

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and best practice within the geotechnical discipline.

Innovation & Digital

  • Apply modern geotechnical analysis tools and digital workflows, including numerical modelling where appropriate.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or close to chartership with a recognised professional body (e.g. ICE, IStructE, IGeol).

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline (MSc advantageous).

  • Proven experience working in a consultancy or design-led geotechnical role.

  • Strong understanding of geotechnical design principles and ground investigation interpretation.

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience using geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, FLAC or similar.

  • Experience working on large infrastructure or multidisciplinary projects.

  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery constraints.
