Our client, is currently seeking a dedicated Highways Laboratory Technician on a contract basis. This opportunity is an excellent chance to be involved in the critical examination and maintenance of highway conditions and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
As part of this role, you should expect to carry out work within the following areas:
- Preparing surveys and gathering information essential to record the condition of highways and related sites
- Formatting information from surveys for use by designers, clients, and other stakeholders
- Liaising with relevant bodies (e.g., contractors, public utilities) to gain site access as required
- Undertaking laboratory tests, recording results, and calibrating equipment
- Adhering to Health and Safety regulations for yourself and others at all times
Job Requirements:
- Working towards RQF level 4 or possessing equivalent experience in an appropriate field
- Appreciation of relevant technical standards, specifications, guidelines, best practices, quality procedures, and UKAS procedures
- Experience working in a Civil Engineering or related testing laboratory
Decision Making Areas:
- Confirming that equipment is calibrated and test conditions are correct
- Ensuring health and safety precautions, particularly traffic management, are in place to minimise risks
- Knowing when to refer matters to colleagues or line managers
Working Conditions:
- Split equally between office work and site work
- Involvement in working on live highways and construction sites, with some lone working
- Communicating with colleagues, contractors, and developers in a challenging environment
- Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role
