Location: Hillend, Edinburgh
Contract: 7‑month contract (Inside IR35)
Rates (Umbrella / PAYE): £25.48 ph UMB | £19.06 ph PAYE

Due to the nature of the work, BPSS clearance is required. You'll also need to complete a basic disclosure and reference checks before starting.

BAE Systems is a global defence and security leader delivering complex engineering, manufacturing and digital programmes. The Hillend site supports manufacturing and project delivery across high‑value defence contracts, requiring strong financial control and accurate project reporting.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Assistant Financial Accountant, you'll support the Project Accounting Manager to maintain financial accuracy across a portfolio of sub‑£1m contracts. You'll ensure data integrity, maintain project trading information and support month‑end processes in a fast‑paced project environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of project financial data
- Maintain and update trading on the manufacturing suite
- Support portfolio reviews across multiple small contracts
- Prepare and process monthly journal vouchers
- Reconcile data across finance systems (SAP / BPC)
- Improve reporting mechanisms and drive continuous improvement
- Analyse SSR data within BPC, updating budgets and comments
- Produce ad‑hoc financial analysis and reports as required
What You'll Need to Succeed
You'll bring strong finance capability, solid systems knowledge and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data with accuracy.
Essential:
- Finance experience within a project or reporting environment
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- SAP and/or BPC system knowledge
- A continuous‑improvement mindset
- Commercial awareness (beneficial)
- Ability to identify risks and opportunities across projects
Desirable:
- Part‑qualified accountant (or QBE) within a project‑focused finance function
