Our client, a leading consultancy in the rail sector, is currently seeking a Tunnel Ventilation Engineer to join their team in Toronto. This is a permanent opportunity offering hybrid working arrangements (three days a week onsite), and the role focuses on high-profile metro projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design & Analysis: Develop ventilation solutions for subway stations, tunnels, and emergency scenarios
  • Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for airflow, smoke control, and thermal comfort
  • Standards & Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Design Manuals, NFPA 130, and applicable codes
  • Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and drawings
  • Project Coordination: Lead ventilation design activities across project phases (concept, detailed design, construction support)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, fire safety)
  • Safety & Risk Management: Conduct emergency ventilation and smoke management studies
  • Validate system performance under worst-case conditions using CFD and empirical methods

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in subway or tunnel ventilation design
  • Strong technical expertise, including P.Eng designation
  • Experience working on rail or mass transit projects
  • Proficiency in CFD software (e.g., FDS, ANSYS Fluent)
  • Strong knowledge of tunnel aerodynamics
  • Understanding of TTC Design Manuals, NFPA 130, and ASHRAE guidelines
  • Effective communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
  • Familiarity with emergency ventilation strategies and fire life safety systems
