Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Permanent | Full‑Time | Hybrid Working Available

We are supporting a long‑established engineering organisation with a strong heritage in delivering high‑reliability, safety‑critical products for demanding and regulated environments. Due to continued growth and a major design‑to‑manufacture programme, they are now looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to strengthen their engineering capability.

This is a genuinely hands‑on design role, offering end‑to‑end involvement in product development - from concept and detailed design through to manufacture and test.

The Role

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of electrical systems across a range of ruggedised and mission‑critical products. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, project managers, supply chain, and test teams to ensure designs are robust, compliant, and ready for manufacture.

The engineering function is structured around product‑aligned business units, meaning you may support different product areas depending on programme priorities. This provides a varied workload and the opportunity to apply your design expertise across multiple applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems in line with customer requirements, legislation, and internal design control processes
  • Deliver designs to agreed standards of quality, cost, and schedule, supporting design‑to‑manufacture programmes with fixed delivery milestones
  • Produce and review technical documentation to support design, verification, compliance, and manufacture
  • Support the transition of designs into production and test, working closely with supply chain and manufacturing teams
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers where appropriate
  • Contribute to design reviews and, at senior level, take responsibility for design sign‑off
  • Support new business activities by providing technical input and cost estimates
  • Identify and implement process and design improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Strong background in electrical / electronic design within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience taking designs from concept through to manufacture
  • Strong design capability - this role is design‑led, not purely support‑based
  • Experience working to structured design and quality processes
  • Comfortable operating in a programme‑driven environment with fixed deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and with non‑engineering stakeholders

Desirable

  • Experience in manufacturing, maritime, naval, or ruggedised equipment environments
  • Exposure to regulated or safety‑critical industries
  • Professional registration (MIET, CEng, or working towards)

Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree
    or
  • HNC / HND with significant relevant industry experience

Working Pattern & Environment

  • 37 hours per week
    • Monday-Thursday: 8 hours per day
    • Friday: 5 hours
  • Hybrid working available (typically 3 days on‑site, 2 days remote)
  • Occasional travel to other sites may be required

Security & Eligibility

  • BPSS clearance required
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC)
  • Dual nationals considered
  • Role subject to ITAR compliance checks

Why Apply?

  • Work on technically challenging, real‑world engineering products
  • Strong emphasis on quality design and engineering best practice
  • Opportunity to work across multiple product lines and disciplines
  • Supportive engineering culture with scope for professional development
  • Hybrid working and a balanced weekly working pattern

If you are a Senior Electrical Design Engineer who enjoys seeing designs through to manufacture and thrives in a technically demanding environment, this role offers an excellent next step.
