Our client, a leading provider in the Defence & Security sector, specialising in maritime environments, is currently seeking a dedicated HV Electrical Design Manager to join their dynamic team in Portsmouth. Operating within a unique joint venture framework, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects in cutting-edge asset management, facilities management, and energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver projects from inception to completion across RIBA design stages
- Provide effective engineering design solutions based on customer briefs
- Deliver High Voltage (HV) distribution design solutions for medium to high-complexity projects
- Lead design and development of HV electrical systems such as substations, switchgear, and transmission lines
- Conduct power system studies including load flow, short circuit, and insulation coordination using ETAP
- Select and specify HV equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, cables)
- Ensure design compliance with IEC, IEEE, BS, NEC, and other relevant standards
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred
- Proficient in ETAP, AutoCAD, or similar design tools
- Strong knowledge of HV systems and protection schemes
- Experience in substation and transmission design (up to 33kV)
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex project workloads
- Project management experience or certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP)
- Approved Electrician status
