Lead/Principal Technical Safety Engineer

Duration: Initial 12 month contract (potentially extending to 2 years)
Project: LNG Terminal Upgrade Programme
Our client is expanding its presence in Aberdeen, and we are seeking a highly capable Lead/Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join their growing team. This is an exciting long-term opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential upgrades to a major LNG terminal, supporting safe and reliable operations through to end‑of‑life beyond 2040.
About the Role
You will join an established technical safety team, initially working alongside an experienced Lead/Principal Technical Safety Engineer and a Technical Safety Engineer. As the project progresses, you will take ownership of your own work packages and contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of this major infrastructure programme.
You will also have access to additional support from a wider Technical Safety team, comprising engineers from graduate to principal level.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce high quality technical safety documentation in line with project budgets, schedules, and standards.
* Work collaboratively with multi‑discipline engineering leads based primarily in Aberdeen.
* Identify hazards and ensure risks are reduced to ALARP.
* Develop assessments and specifications for a range of technical safety deliverables, including:
- Risk assessments
- Fire & Gas (F&G) detection
- Active and Passive Fire Protection (AFP/PFP)
- DSEAR assessments
- Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) reports and drawings
* Manage third‑party consultants delivering QRA, F&G mapping studies, and other specialist analyses.
* Provide leadership within the technical safety workstream as the project evolves.
About You

Essential:
* Proven experience delivering technical safety work on UK COMAH‑regulated sites.
* Strong understanding of hazard identification and risk reduction principles.
* Ability to produce clear, robust technical safety deliverables.
Desirable:
* Recent hands‑on experience with PHAST.
* Experience leading work packages or small teams.
