Our client is seeking a Highway Inspector to join their team on a contract basis. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the safety and integrity of highway infrastructure, engaging with the community, and responding swiftly to urgent issues on the network. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative environment, assessing defects, prioritising safety, and providing practical solutions to minimise impact on all highway users, especially the most vulnerable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and respond to public enquiries classified as emergency or urgent, coordinating with the Network Intelligence Centre
  • Evaluate highway defects, considering risks to all users and the potential consequences of issues identified
  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure emergency defects are made safe and minor repairs are carried out during inspections where feasible
  • Conduct thorough inspections in line with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards
  • Represent the organisation and engage professionally with members of the public, community stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, defects, and actions taken
  • Identify opportunities for proactive maintenance and contribute to continuous improvement processes

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in highway inspection or related roles, with understanding of highway safety standards
  • Significant experience in assessing infrastructure defects and contributing to safety measures
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations within the highways environment
  • Understanding of the needs of vulnerable highway users and risk management
  • Full awareness of community engagement practices and stakeholder communication
  • Hold valid Lantra Highway Safety Inspectors Modular Training and Assessment or equivalent qualification
