Required Skills & Experience:

  • Typically a minimum of three years' experience within the geo-environmental sector, confident working both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Competent in planning, organising, and supervising ground investigations using a range of intrusive methods for both contaminated land and geotechnical projects
  • Competent in producing exploratory hole logs, sample testing schedules, and accurate site drawings
  • Competent in preparing factual ground investigation reports
  • Experienced in designing and managing larger-scale ground investigation projects
  • Confident in client-facing roles, including explaining technical matters to non-technical audiences
  • Experienced in delivering Phase 1 Desk Studies and Phase 2 Intrusive Investigation Reports
  • Experienced in end‑to‑end project management, from planning through delivery
  • Knowledge or experience with GIS and CAD software packages
  • Knowledge or experience in contaminated land assessment (GQRA) and ground gas risk assessment
  • Knowledge of coal mining risk assessments
  • Knowledge of validation and verification of remediation measures, including clean cover systems and gas membrane installations
  • Knowledge of mentoring and instructing junior staff
  • Appreciation of quote preparation and financial aspects of project management
  • Appreciation of general civil engineering and construction processes
  • Appreciation of foundation design considerations and geotechnical requirements

Day-to-Day Responsibilities May Include:

  • Coordinating, supervising, and overseeing ground investigation works, including subsequent monitoring and remediation activities
  • Project management, including budgeting and financial tracking
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards during all field-based operations
  • Accurate recording of site data, and presenting findings clearly and concisely
  • Collecting and scheduling soil, rock, and groundwater samples for environmental and geotechnical laboratory testing
  • Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, both on-site and in-office
  • Preparing client deliverables such as:
    • Environmental risk assessments
    • Remediation recommendations
    • Foundation design suggestions
    • Coal mining risk assessments
  • Supporting senior staff with the preparation of reports, drawings, conceptual models, and fee proposals
  • Providing training and guidance to junior team members
