Setting Out Engineer - Shaft Sinking & Tunnelling Project
Location: Newton Abbot

Duration: 3+ months
Pay: £330 per day
Our client is seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer to support a major shaft sinking and tunnelling project as part of a new prison development. This role offers the opportunity to work on a technically complex and high‑profile scheme with a leading contractor.
A valid DBS check is required for this role as it is based on a prison, we will arrange this on your behalf.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting out for tunnelling and shaft sinking works
- Working closely with construction teams to ensure accurate alignment and levels
- Managing site surveys, as‑built records, and QA documentation
- Ensuring all works comply with project specifications and safety requirements
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on tunnelling, shaft sinking, or heavy civil engineering projects
- Strong knowledge of survey equipment (e.g., total station, GPS)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work within a fast‑paced, complex environment
- Ability to liaise effectively with engineers, supervisors, and project managers
- DBS clearance (arranged by us)
