Our client is pursuing several HV Transmission opportunities with National Grid. As the HV Transmission Engineering Lead, you will head a team of electrical engineers and designers within our client's in-house Engineering Services team.
You will be responsible for managing the electrical engineering delivery for the design of major Transmission projects across the UK, working closely with other engineering disciplines, sector teams and commercial functions throughout the project lifecycle from tendering and preconstruction through to construction and handover.
This contract role offers a hybrid working arrangement predominantly based in London, Manchester or Aberdeen with a requirement to occasionally work at multiple locations throughout the UK depending on contract needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Engineering Services team and other departments as well as external supply chain partners across our client's portfolio of HV Transmission projects
- Effectively communicate with key project stakeholders on design progress, challenges, risks and outcomes to ensure alignment and manage expectations
- Accurately forecast future team resource needs, ensuring effective utilisation of design resources and recruitment to meet demand
- Lead the successful delivery of electrical engineering services across all transmission contracts, ensuring scope, budgets, and programmes are clearly defined and adhered to
- Ensure the delivery of technically compliant and quality-controlled designs which meet scope requirements including necessary technical and regulatory assurance activities
- Collaborate strategically with our client's Energy Sector to develop best-in-class value propositions and winning bids
- Facilitate the capturing and clear communication of technical risks and opportunities to all stakeholders and oversee effective management of design change
Job Requirements:
- A background in managing the delivery of electrical engineering services on complex HV transmission projects across the programme lifecycle
- Recent delivery experience on National Grid sub-station projects
- Experience in successfully managing the delivery of complex engineering scopes to budget and programme
- Demonstrable experience in effective change management and leading value engineering exercises
- A background in managing engineering teams, responsible for managing workload, resource demand and skillsets
- Significant engineering design experience within the field of HV transmission
- Experience with managing third party designers/sub-contractors, ensuring technical approvals and compliance
- Experienced technical manager capable of reviewing technical quality and compliance of design deliverables
- Demonstrable record of promoting safety in design, lean design concepts, sustainable practices or digital innovations
Desirable:
- Experience setting up, leading or operating other aspects of project engineering delivery such as design workflows, information management systems, quality controls
