Registered Building Inspector - Class 2A or Class 2D
Role Overview
The position is for a Registered Building Inspector with either Class 2A or Class 2D registration. The work spans both residential and commercial sectors, with a strong emphasis on residential projects (approx. 80%). The role suits someone with a solid understanding of building regulations, strong technical judgement, and the ability to manage a varied inspection workload.
Candidates registered as Class 2A will be fully supported and enrolled onto a Class 2D training programme through Total Training to progress their competency.
Key Responsibilities
🏠 Residential (80%)
Conduct inspections on:
New-build housing
Extensions and alterations
Loft conversions
Barn conversions
Assess compliance with relevant building regulations, technical standards, and approved documents.
Produce clear, accurate inspection reports and maintain detailed site records.
Liaise with builders, architects, homeowners, and developers to resolve compliance issues.
Identify defects, non-compliance, and risks, providing guidance on corrective actions.
🏢 Commercial (20%)
Carry out inspections on:
Retail units and shops
Larger commercial buildings within Class 2D scope
Review plans and assess compliance with structural, fire safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency requirements.
Support senior inspectors on more complex commercial projects where required.
Required Skills & Experience
Registered Building Inspector - Class 2A or Class 2D (mandatory).
Strong working knowledge of building regulations across both residential and commercial environments.
Experience conducting site inspections, writing reports, and advising on compliance.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and structural details.
Confident communicator with the ability to engage professionally with contractors, clients, and design teams.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
Desirable Attributes

Training & Development
Class 2A inspectors will be enrolled onto a Class 2D training course delivered via Total Training.
