Lead Civil & Structural Designer
Location: Aberdeen (hybrid working available)
About the Role
As a Lead Civil & Structural Designer, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality design solutions for major pipeline and infrastructure projects. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team-but often independently-you will take ownership of producing and developing civil and structural CAD deliverables, including 3D models, drawings, and sketches across all project stages.
This role suits someone who enjoys technical leadership, thrives on variety, and is confident driving design quality from concept through to detailed design.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of 2D and 3D design solutions for civil, structural, temporary, and permanent works across all project phases.
  • Develop high‑quality CAD deliverables using Aveva E3D for 3D BIM modelling and drawing extraction, and Autodesk Civil 3D/AutoCAD for civil design elements.
  • Work effectively within a Common Data Environment, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and traceability of design information.
  • Manage draughting activities to meet agreed budgets, schedules, and technical standards.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, standards, and internal procedures, while maintaining awareness of industry developments.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and other disciplines to ensure well‑coordinated, fully integrated design interfaces.
  • Liaise with internal teams, clients, vendors, and project stakeholders to support smooth project delivery.
  • Work primarily from our Aberdeen office, with flexibility for remote working and occasional travel to other offices or project sites.

About You

  • City & Guilds or HNC/HND qualification; EngTech or IEng (ICE) registration is an advantage.
  • Strong capability in the design and detailing of foundations, drainage, below‑ground infrastructure, cable ducting, steelwork, and concrete structures.
  • Experience in reinforced concrete detailing is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with 4D simulation, construction sequencing, and clash detection tools is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to delegate, coordinate, and guide design tasks within a team environment.
  • A proactive, organised approach and confidence working with minimal supervision.
