Our client, a leading entity in the public sector, is currently seeking a Principal Structures/Highways Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is central to maintaining and enhancing the reputation of the Highways services, ensuring contract compliance and leading a team to deliver public realm projects in accordance with all relevant specifications and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the collective leadership of the service, working with various stakeholders to deliver objectives and priorities.
- Uphold a working knowledge of relevant highways legislation including Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the Highways Act 1980.
- Actively contribute to the integrated delivery, management and performance of the Highways and Public Realm service.
- Undertake tendering and procurement for contracts, from specification stage to final award.
- Drive process and contract efficiencies across the allocated portfolio.
- Prepare and contribute to comprehensive monthly reports on performance against key indicators.
- Utilize IT proficiently, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and GIS.
- Prepare reports, briefing notes, FOI responses, and press information as required.
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience in structural design and engineering within the highways sector.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles related to bridges and highways infrastructure.
- Excellent understanding of relevant legislation including the Town and Country Planning Act and the Highways Act.
- Experience with tendering and procurement processes.
- Proficient in using IT systems, particularly AutoCAD and GIS.
- Exceptional communication skills, able to prepare detailed reports and respond to various inquiries.
- Ability to manage teams and deliver high-quality services within budget constraints.
- Proven track record in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
