Skilled Fitter - Aerospace (Contract) - Southampton
We are looking for an experienced Fitter to join our aerospace client in Southampton on a contract basis. This role falls Inside IR35 and will be working early shifts:
Shift Pattern:
- Mon-Thu: 06:00-14:15
- Fri: 06:00-12:00
Pay Rates:
- PAYE (Earlies): £22.23 per hour
- Umbrella (Earlies): £30.56 per hour
Role Overview
You will join a well‑established team within the Transparencies Department, undertaking skilled aircraft fitting tasks to support production targets and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Reporting to the Shop Floor Manager and collaborating with colleagues across Engineering, Quality, and other functions to ensure production goals are achieved safely, on time, and to specification.
- Upholding safety standards in line with company EHS policies; reporting any safety concerns or near misses promptly.
- Ensuring compliance with all Company Quality procedures.
- Reading and following work instructions, specifications, and technical drawings via PC systems.
- Interpreting engineering data, approved maintenance information, repair schemes, and Manufacturing Procedures (MPs).
- Holding an Approved Operator (AO) stamp for relevant operations and signing off own work where compliance with specifications has been fully met.
- Participating in team meetings and supporting knowledge sharing, including mentoring trainees when required.
- Accurately booking jobs and recording labour usage in line with company processes.
- Working independently with minimal supervision.
- Maintaining a clean and organised work area and supporting 5S best practice.
- Completing route cards accurately to ensure full component traceability.
- Taking part in LEAN activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Carrying out any other reasonable duties aligned with the role level.
Candidate Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering/Manufacturing, or a time‑served apprenticeship in a related trade.
- Strong numeracy, literacy, and IT proficiency, including confidence reading digital technical documentation.
- Good planning and problem‑solving skills.
- Working knowledge of 5S and lean principles.
- A strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated competency in key skill codes relevant to the department.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK, and ability to comply with ITAR restrictions.
Successful applicants will be required to undergo baseline security clearance.
