Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Piping Designer to support engineering and project delivery across a range of energy‑sector applications, including power generation, hydrogen systems, carbon capture, and industrial utilities. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Creo, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor, with a strong understanding of piping design for high‑integrity, safety‑critical systems.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to produce accurate, compliant, and fabrication‑ready piping designs that support the development of next‑generation energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D piping models and 2D fabrication drawings for energy‑sector equipment and systems.
  • Produce piping layouts, isometrics, GA drawings, and BOMs aligned with project requirements.
  • Interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and engineering specifications for energy‑related systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes and standards (ASME B31.1/B31.3, PED, ISO, BS EN).
  • Design piping for systems such as:
    • Steam, condensate, and cooling water
    • Hydrogen and gas distribution
    • Thermal fluids and heat‑transfer systems
    • Carbon capture and chemical process loops
    • High‑pressure and high‑temperature applications
  • Collaborate with process, mechanical, and electrical engineers to optimise system
  • Support HAZOP/HAZID design considerations and incorporate safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with fabrication, installation, and commissioning teams to ensure design intent is maintained.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, revision control, and adherence to project quality systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Piping Designer within the energy, power, utilities, or process industries.
  • Proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor (experience with multiple platforms is advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of piping materials, fittings, valves, and fabrication methods used in energy applications.
  • Experience producing isometrics, pipe supports, skid layouts, and equipment arrangements.
  • Familiarity with pressure systems, rotating equipment, and packaged energy systems.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering best practices.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent 3D modelling and drafting capability.
  • Strong understanding of safety‑critical design principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and engineering data.
  • Effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet demanding project deadlines.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • Power generation (gas, steam, biomass, nuclear)
  • Hydrogen production or storage
  • Carbon capture and utilisation
  • Renewable energy systems (solar thermal, geothermal, energy storage)
  • Water treatment or industrial utilities
  • Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems (Windchill, Vault, SolidWorks PDM).
  • Understanding of pipe stress considerations or FEA tools.
  • Experience with modular skid design or plant‑room layout.
