Our client is currently seeking a Senior Flood Risk Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role can be based in London, Manchester, Kent, or Bristol, with a flexible working arrangement of up to one day a week in the office for highly capable individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the design process from inception to construction of flood alleviation and surface water management projects
  • Producing and checking Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
  • Day-to-day project management of a small team of modellers using Flood Modeller-TUFLOW and InfoWorks ICM
  • Client liaison and management, including producing fee proposals and verifying work
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers and modellers
  • Designing foul and surface water systems using WinDES/InfoDrain or FLOW software

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in designing flood mitigation works and surface water management systems
  • Understanding of drainage strategies for new developments
  • Project management and team leadership skills
  • Proficiency in Flood Modeller/TUFLOW and InfoWorks ICM software
  • Knowledge of GIS software such as MAP-Info and QGIS
  • Client-facing experience with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), Flood and Water Management Act (FWMA) 2010, Water Industry Act (WIA) 1991, and S104 Agreements

Education and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Approaching or achieved Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE or CIWEM)
  • Substantial postgraduate experience in flood risk management, hydrological analysis, and drainage design

Preferred Competencies:

  • Ability to design and implement flood protection measures
  • Experience in surface water management strategies
  • Proficiency in project management, including mentor and leadership duties
  • Exceptional communication and team collaboration skills
