Our client, a leading organisation in the power transmission and distribution sector, is currently seeking a dedicated Commercial Manager to join their team. This contract role involves a hybrid function combining contract/commercial management, quantity surveying, and project commercial governance for major UK infrastructure projects. The position entails NEC3/4 contract administration, cost control, and project documentation oversight for cable-laying, jointing, civils, substation works, and agricultural routing projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer NEC3/4 contracts including early warnings, compensation events, payment applications, and change control logs.
- Interpret contract documentation and highlight key points to the project delivery team for execution planning.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal departments to clarify contractual interpretations and milestones.
- Ensure contract documents, cost and forecast management, and change control records are audit-ready.
- Produce cost reports, CVRs, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and margin tracking.
- Manage subcontractor applications, variations, final accounts, and claims negotiations.
- Conduct project execution cost reviews vs tender budgets and provide lessons-learned feedback for the Bid Team.
- Ensure timely issuance of payment applications and invoices to maintain cash flow.
- Support procurement including ordering power and fibre-optic cables and accessories.
- Provide monthly updates to senior management on progress, risks, and financials.
- Attend client meetings on progress, issues, commercial matters, and technical queries.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Strong background in NEC3 & 4 contract management.
- Experience in power transmission, distribution, civils, and substations, including cable-laying and jointing operations.
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor and/or Commercial Manager.
- Strong commercial, financial, and contractual acumen.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering, or equivalent (desirable).
- Membership of RICS/CICES/ICE (beneficial).
- Willingness to travel to sites across the UK with overnight stays where required.
- Strong communication, report writing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
