Overview:

Our client, a leading defence company, are looking for an Infrastructure Deployment Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. Although positioned within the Software function, this is fundamentally an IT Infrastructure & Systems Deployment role, focused on delivering pre‑configured products into live client sites and ensuring they operate effectively in service.

Key Responsibilities:

Deployment & Commissioning -

  • Install, configure, and commission applications and supporting infrastructure within customer environments.
  • Deploy pre‑configured products into live sites and verify successful operation.
  • Conduct functional testing once solutions are in service.

Infrastructure Support -

  • Maintain project IT infrastructure including servers, workstations, networks, and applications.
  • Ensure high availability of infrastructure during live projects and training activities.
  • Manage patching, updates, and performance optimisation.
  • Troubleshoot issues across hardware, software, and networks.

Technical Assurance & Documentation -

  • Identify and mitigate potential IT risks before and during deployments.
  • Support site acceptance testing and formal defect/query resolution.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, configuration records, and installation notes.

Customer & Team Collaboration -

  • Provide technical support to customers and deployed teams.
  • Deliver end‑user support and informal on‑the‑job training to UK and international colleagues.
  • Work closely with local teams, broader Leonardo engineering sites, and customer stakeholders.
  • Offer expert technical advice around infrastructure integration.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Windows Server & Windows 10 administration
  • Backup and recovery management
  • Physical & virtualised environments (e.g., VMware, servers, network appliances)
  • Windows domain services: DNS, DHCP, WSUS, Exchange, SQL Server
  • Application deployment & virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware Horizon, Citrix)
  • Networking fundamentals:
    • IPv4/IPv6
    • VLANs
    • Routing & switching
    • Network security concepts
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making ability
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative and supportive team player
