Our client, a leading company in the rail industry, is currently seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a contract role. This position requires substantial experience in rail or related industries, including engineering, defence, construction, or IT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide post-contract commercial support for designated packages of work, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within cost and time constraints.
  • Assist with the commercial management of various work packages, including Design, Installation, Test & Commission, Materials, Telecoms, Electrification, Power, Plant, Professional Services, Civil Engineering, and Permanent Way.
  • Manage work package change control and management.
  • Provide key commercial interface for responsible work package managers.
  • Offer contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering teams.
  • Oversee cost management, including forecasting, budget management, and control.
  • Monitor and mitigate work package risks proactively.
  • Contribute to internal and external commercial reports as required by the Commercial Delivery Strategy.
  • Ensure processes and document control align with company standards.
  • Collaborate with key partners, such as finance, project management, engineering, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Maintain auditable records for responsible work packages in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Act as a primary interface to work package managers, key partners, and suppliers.

Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a contractor-side project environment.
  • Experience in rail.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent and/or working towards a professional qualification (RICS, IACCM or similar).
  • Strong track record in a contractor-side project environment.
  • Capability to manage both direct labour and subcontract costs.
  • Proficiency in estimating change/variations using various methods.
  • Ability to forecast costs, measure cost of work complete, and articulate any variance.
  • Experience in managing commercial reporting internally and externally.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage expectations.
  • Competency in managing commercial strategies.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good financial and commercial acumen.
  • Capability to work under own initiative with limited supervision under cost or time constraints.
  • Good contractual knowledge and experience.
  • Confident in dealing externally and internally at all levels.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Project, and MS Outlook.
