Matching our supporting our client with the requisition of a Senior Substation Physical Engineer for a contract role. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead electrical design projects and work on a variety of high-profile projects, such as power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical design from conceptual phase through to project completion, adapting plans according to budget, design requirements, and client needs
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations
  • Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines
  • Develop project schedules, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning, including effective management of change orders
  • Quality review of production drawings and construction administration to resolve design-related installation issues
  • Lead field inspections, installations, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients
  • Prepare and present technical reports and ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers and ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and all safety policies

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in substation physical (outdoor) electrical engineering design for power systems
  • Proven ability to lead projects through conceptual design, detailed design, construction support, testing, and commissioning
  • Extensive experience with AIS layouts and GIS, as well as outdoor substation equipment layouts
  • Strong understanding of electrical clearances, phase spacing, grounding, constructability, and safety requirements
  • Proficiency in developing and reviewing substation general arrangement and detailed layout drawings
  • Strong familiarity with standard substation bus configurations and multidisciplinary coordination
  • Experience supporting project scope development, schedules, cost estimates, and change management
  • Expert knowledge of industry codes and standards (IEEE, NERC, ANSI, IEC, CSA, NEC, NESC)
  • The ability to travel

Education & Licensure:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (P Eng) licence required or the ability to obtain one within a defined timeframe
