Matchech are supporting a key client with the requisition of a highly skilled Staff Substation Physical Engineer for a contract position. This role involves extensive project work across various industries, including power, process, healthcare, and government facilities. The engineer will be responsible for adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs from the conceptual phase through design completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments
  • Perform electrical design from conceptual phase through design completion
  • Modify and review production drawings for various facilities
  • Design electrical components per project requirements
  • Update drawings and verify corrections using CAD software
  • Compile information for presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations
  • Comply with all company policies and standards

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in Protection & Control engineering for power systems
  • Ability to support projects through design development, construction, testing, and commissioning
  • Experience with P&C design for substations, transmission, distribution, and generation projects
  • Understanding of protective relaying principles and relay protection schemes
  • Experience with microprocessor-based protective relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens)
  • Knowledge of SCADA and substation automation systems
  • Proficiency in diagrams, schematics, layout, and vendor drawings
  • Familiarity with standard bus configurations
  • Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and vendors
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards (IEEE, NERC, ANSI, IEC, CSA, NEC, NESC)
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and compliance

Education & Licensure:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (P Eng) license required or the ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
