📌 Role Title

Registered Building Inspector (RBI) - Building Control Surveyor Location: East Sussex (Hybrid / Site-Based) Contract: Permanent / Full-Time Registration: Mandatory - BSR Registered Building Inspector (Class appropriate to duties)

🌟 Role Purpose

To deliver a high‑quality, customer‑focused Building Control service across East Sussex, ensuring that building work complies with the Building Regulations, associated legislation, and safety standards. The role supports safe, sustainable development and contributes to maintaining public confidence in the built environment.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

Regulatory & Technical

• Assess plans, specifications, and calculations for compliance with Building Regulations and relevant legislation.

• Undertake site inspections at key stages of construction, identifying non‑compliance and advising on corrective actions.

• Prepare accurate inspection records, reports, and enforcement documentation where required.

• Provide expert technical advice to architects, builders, developers, and homeowners.

• Manage a caseload of domestic and/or commercial projects appropriate to your RBI class of registration.

• Escalate higher‑risk or complex cases in line with BSR competency requirements.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

• Deliver a responsive, professional service to applicants, agents, and the public.

• Communicate technical requirements clearly and constructively.

• Build strong working relationships with internal teams, fire authorities, planning, environmental health, and other statutory bodies.

Compliance & Governance

• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Building Regulations, BSR guidance, and industry standards.

• Ensure all work aligns with the Building Safety Act 2022 and BSR Code of Conduct.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of Building Control processes and service delivery.

• Support enforcement action where necessary, including issuing notices and preparing evidence.

🎓 Essential Qualifications & Requirements

• Registered Building Inspector (BSR) - Class 2, 3, or 4 depending on role level.

• Demonstrable experience in Building Control or a related construction discipline.

• Strong understanding of Building Regulations, technical standards, and construction practices.

• Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across East Sussex.

• Excellent communication, report‑writing, and customer service skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.

💼 Desirable

• Membership of a professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB).

• Experience with complex commercial or higher‑risk buildings (HRBs).

• Knowledge of digital Building Control systems and mobile inspection tools.

• Local authority Building Control experience (if applicable).
