About the Role
We're looking for a Principal Pipeline Engineer to join a growing Energy Transition Team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of mechanical and pipeline designs across a wide range of transmission projects, including:
* Natural gas (below and above 7 bar)
* Hydrogen transmission
* Carbon dioxide pipelines
* Wider low‑carbon and energy transition infrastructure
You'll work as part of a large multidisciplinary engineering group, contributing to projects from early inception through development, construction, operation and decommissioning. Our team supports clients across the full asset lifecycle, delivering safe, efficient and innovative solutions that exceed expectations.
You'll also have opportunities to work on first‑of‑a‑kind technologies, future fuels and carbon capture projects, collaborating with developers, utilities, government bodies, EPC contractors & OEMs
What You'll Be Doing
Typical responsibilities include:
- Developing cost‑effective, practical and innovative engineering solutions to complex pipeline challenges
- Working across feasibility studies, concept design, FEED, value engineering and detailed design
- Preparing pipeline and AGI deliverables, including wall thickness calculations and piping specifications
- Undertaking pipeline routing studies, population density assessments and high‑pressure pipeline diversions
- Collaborating closely with other engineering disciplines to develop integrated designs
- Supporting the development of layouts and 3D models
- Leading and contributing to proposals, bids and multi‑disciplinary project submissions
- Providing technical leadership and guidance across the pipeline and layout discipline
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards IEng/CEng) with a relevant professional institute
- Strong understanding of IGEM/TD/1, TD/13 and gas network operator addendums
- Experience leading the development of pipeline and AGI engineering deliverables
- Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for plant equipment and piping design
- Experience in pipeline and AGI design, including routing and high‑pressure systems
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to 3D plant models
- Strong understanding of the design process, scope development and engineering calculations
- Experience troubleshooting operational and integrity issues
- Proficiency with Autodesk tools including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks and BIM360
- Strong MS Office skills for producing technical reports, specifications, schedules and calculations
- Experience working with clients and contractors with diverse technical and commercial objectives
- Experience with ASME Engineering codes would be advantageous
