We are seeking a Senior PCB Design Engineer!

We are seeking a skilled PCB Design Engineer to lead the design and layout of complex multi‑layer Printed Circuit Boards (4-20 layers) used across commercial, security, aerospace and space sectors. You will contribute to a diverse portfolio of research, development and production programmes ranging from £tens of thousands to several £million.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering advanced electronic hardware for high‑reliability applications!

This role is based in Berkshire, with the expectation to be an onsite role due to the classification of the projects you will be working on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design complex 4-20 layer rigid, semi‑rigid and flex PCBs with through, buried and blind vias.
  • Deliver layouts for analogue, RF, digital, power, high‑speed and high‑reliability circuits, applying DO‑254 when required.
  • Ensure designs meet security, EMC and TEMPEST standards.
  • Integrate test features that support production test without impacting performance.
  • Work with hardware engineers on signal integrity, impedance control, routing rules and EMC.
  • Liaise with PCB fabricators and assembly partners to meet stack‑up, DRC, DFM and DFT requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure designs meet mechanical constraints.
  • Support procurement and supply chain to enable smooth manufacturing handover.
  • Maintain CAD libraries, including symbols and footprints.
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively.
  • Contribute to technical and design reviews.
  • Stay current with PCB design methods, tools and best practices.
  • Provide accurate time and cost estimates for design tasks and bids.
  • Recommend process or tool improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Lead or support project work, balancing requirements, schedule and cost.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to different audiences.

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, mathematics, science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in PCB design, routing and layout of complex, high‑density electronic assemblies.
  • Strong background using industry‑standard PCB layout and simulation tools.
  • Deep understanding of routing practices, IPC standards and high‑density design.
  • Experience implementing DFM and DFT features and engaging with suppliers on reviews.
  • Track record of successful PCB designs covering multi‑layer, high‑speed digital, RF, analogue and power circuits.

Desirable Experience

  • Signal integrity analysis of routed PCBs.
  • Understanding of power distribution and thermal considerations in PCB design.
  • Experience with Gerber and ODB++ manipulation.
  • Altium Designer or PADS for layout and schematic capture.
  • Experience using Windchill for version control.

Why Should You Join?

  • Work on high‑impact projects within advanced technology sectors.
  • Opportunities for innovation, continuous learning and professional development.
  • Collaborative engineering environment with cross‑disciplinary teams.
  • Influence real‑world solutions with global significance.
