Human Factors Integration (HFI) Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Human Factors Integration (HFI) Manager to support the delivery of a major training transformation programme. This role sits within a multi‑disciplinary engineering environment and plays a critical part in shaping effective, safe, and user‑centred defence training systems.
About the Role
You will be joining a high‑impact, collaborative team dedicated to designing and delivering innovative collective training solutions. Working within a matrix structure, you'll contribute to a programme focused on enhancing operational readiness and improving end‑user outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance user experience, operational efficiency, and safety across solution designs.
- Support development of coherent and safe support solutions across multiple training systems and environments.
- Create and maintain Human Factors plans, processes, and procedures in line with JSP 912 and Def Stan 00‑251.
- Monitor system performance and user feedback, providing recommendations to improve usability and safety.
- Collaborate with testing teams to deliver usability assessments and actionable insights.
- Develop and evolve Human Factors Integration requirements and ensure compliance.
- Lead stakeholder feedback sessions, managing actions and tracking improvements.
- Implement and manage the Human Factors Integration Management System (HuFIMS).
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree‑level education (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Human Factors, User Experience (UX), or User‑Centred Design (UCD).
- Demonstrated experience as a Human Factors Integration (HFI) Manager or Engineer.
- Proven leadership capability within complex, multi‑disciplinary programmes.
- Strong HFI engineering skills, including usability analysis and feeding improvements into development cycles.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and human factors evaluation techniques.
- High competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Solid understanding of technical publications and support documentation.
- Established track record of delivering human factors assessments and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant HFI standards and guidance.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel within the UK to attend meetings.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Strong planning, organisational, and prioritisation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Experience working with training solutions, military platforms, or equipment installation at customer sites.
- Familiarity with defence or public‑sector engineering standards and frameworks (e.g., GEAR, ITEA, CADMID).
- Background in training transformation or learning‑technology platforms.
- SAFe and/or ITIL4 certification.
- Existing security clearance or the ability to obtain SC level or higher.
