Infrastructure Automation Engineer - NATS (National Air Traffic Services) Simulation
Simulation Services supports the training and ongoing competency of Air Traffic Control Officers through on‑site and remote simulation environments. As part of a multi‑year modernisation programme, we are moving from bespoke, legacy infrastructure to standardised, automated platforms.
We're looking for an Infrastructure Automation Engineer to support this journey by automating, uplifting and deploying next‑generation simulation infrastructure. This is a hands-on infrastructure automation and build role, not a design or architecture position. The successful contractor will spend the majority of their time uplifting, maintaining and extending existing automation used to build and deploy Windows and Linux systems across physical and virtual environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, enhance and maintain infrastructure automation (PowerShell, scripting, Ansible)
- Support deployment and provisioning of bare‑metal servers and virtual machines
- Troubleshoot and resolve build, automation and deployment issues
- Contribute to documentation, build standards and improving existing codebases
- Provide hands‑on support and technical guidance during installations
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong automation and scripting experience (PowerShell essential)
- Experience with infrastructure provisioning (physical & virtual, on‑prem)
- Git version control and collaborative development
- Virtualisation (Hyper-V preferred)
- Windows administration (with working knowledge of Linux)
- Comfortable working in changing priorities and complex environments
Desirable Technologies Ansible, Hyper‑V, PXE/bare‑metal builds, Active Directory, DNS, WSUS, SQL, monitoring tools (e.g. Zabbix).
