Our client, a leading authority in London's Public sector, is currently seeking a Principal Traffic Engineer to join their Design & Construction team for a contract position. This role is crucial in leading technical matters related to traffic engineering and road safety, ensuring that improvements benefit communities across the Borough.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the Council's technical lead on traffic engineering, road safety, and traffic order compliance
- Provide expert input into complex and high-profile infrastructure projects
- Oversee the delivery of road safety audits in line with best practice and national guidance
- Ensure road safety is embedded throughout project lifecycles, aligned with Vision Zero and Healthy Streets principles
- Manage and develop a small team, fostering professional growth and innovation
- Contribute to shaping policy and procedures that influence the creation of safer, more liveable neighbourhoods
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience in traffic engineering
- In-depth understanding of relevant UK legislation and guidance (such as LTN 1/20)
- Strong track record in delivering engineering solutions that balance technical rigour with community priorities
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Experience in building strong relationships with stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities
