About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Stores Operative to play a key role in our supply chain operations. This position is critical in supporting our gas control and measurement customers by ensuring the efficient flow of materials and accurate stock control from receipt through to dispatch.

Working largely independently, you will take ownership of day-to-day stores activities, including material preparation and stock management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to continue or develop a career within the fabrication and engineering sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, unload, and inspect incoming deliveries, checking for damage and discrepancies against purchase orders
  • Accurately book in stock and allocate items to designated storage locations
  • Pick, pack, and dispatch goods for internal assembly teams and external customers, ensuring 100% accuracy
  • Prepare shipping paperwork and liaise with couriers to ensure timely collections
  • Provide material preparation support when required
  • Maintain the T-Card system to give clear, visual oversight of job status, stock locations, and progress
  • Carry out regular stock counts and perpetual inventory checks
  • Identify and report low stock levels or shortages to the purchasing team
  • Safely operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck to move, stack, and load materials
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe stores environment at all times

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a stores or warehouse role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Experience working in heavy manufacturing is desirable
  • Ability to read engineering drawings (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Confident working independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly with production, maintenance teams, and management
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to take direction when required
  • Manual stock control experience, particularly T-Card systems, with basic computer literacy
  • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) licence highly desirable
  • Comfortable with manual handling and the physical demands of a busy stores environment
