Senior Quantity Surveyor
We are working with a well‑established organisation operating within the UK power and utilities infrastructure sector, who are looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor on a permanent, full‑time basis in London.
The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, with a requirement to be present on site approximately three days per week. The successful individual will take on a senior commercial role on a major underground cable installation programme, supporting the delivery of a long‑term strategic infrastructure scheme valued at a significant level. The role carries responsibility for strong cost, contractual and commercial control under NEC forms of contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial administration of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, ensuring effective governance and contractual compliance
- Take ownership of high‑value supply chain packages, including the assessment and agreement of variations, claims, and final accounts
- Prepare and manage monthly commercial reporting, including CVRs, forecasts, and cost performance updates for senior leadership
- Act as a commercial lead on the project, supporting and guiding Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors within the team
- Ensure all commercial records and systems are maintained accurately and in line with internal assurance and audit standards
- Maintain a regular on‑site presence to support operational delivery, client liaison, and commercial decision‑making
- Manage change processes including early warning notices, compensation events, and formal change control
- Work closely with engineering, construction, and delivery teams to align cost, programme, and risk management
- Develop productive working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives
Essential Requirements
- Strong background in commercial management or quantity surveying on live projects using NEC contracts
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractor accounts, including negotiation, commercial agreement, and close‑out
- Proven capability in cost reporting, forecasting, and financial control
- Degree‑qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (RICS‑accredited desirable)
- Technically astute, commercially aware, and highly detail‑focused
- Experience delivering projects within utilities, power, cable route, civil engineering, or M&E environments
- Confident mentoring and supporting junior members of a commercial team
