Job Specification: Skilled Composite Laminators (x5) - Lates
Due to a production ramp-up, we are seeking five Skilled Composite Laminators to join our team on the lates shift.
Location - Southampton
Shift Pattern
Monday to Thursday: 14:15 - 22:30
Friday: 12:00 - 18:00
Pay Rates
PAYE: £25.94 per hour
Umbrella: £35.66 per hour
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK, adhere to ITAR restrictions, and be able to obtain Baseline Security Clearance (BPSS).
Overview
As a Laminator, also known as a Lay-Up Operator, you will manufacture high‑quality composite components using composite, glass, and honeycomb core materials. Using manual laminating techniques, you will produce precision components to demanding aerospace standards.
The role is based within an automated cleanroom environment and requires a high level of attention to detail, flexibility, and effective teamwork within a multi‑disciplined production setting. As a Skilled Operator, you will demonstrate strong self‑management, ownership of quality, and responsibility for problem solving and continuous improvement.
Ideal Background
Candidates will ideally come from an Aerospace, Formula 1, or Motorsport environment, with strong pre‑preg laminating experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out composite lay‑up of a variety of panel types to tight tolerances
* Work within a team to achieve production requirements safely, on time, and to customer specifications, reporting to the Section Team Leader
* Liaise with Quality and Engineering as required to support production delivery
* Hold an Approved Operator (AO) stamp for relevant operations and approve own work once specifications and standards are met
* Accurately read and follow work instructions, specifications, and technical drawings via PC
* Complete work route cards accurately to maintain full component traceability
* Support scrap reduction and right‑first‑time manufacturing
This role involves physical activity. Applicants must be capable of undertaking manual tasks, with appropriate assistance where required.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in composite laminating, with recent hands‑on manufacturing experience
* Experience working with carbon fibre and similar composite materials
* Time‑served apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in a recognised allied trade; equivalent industry experience will be considered
* Good manual dexterity and attention to detail
* Ability to read and understand technical documentation, with competent numeracy and literacy skills
* Sound knowledge of health and safety in a manufacturing or cleanroom environment
* Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Positive, practical approach to problem solving
* Willingness to follow procedures, participate in training, and adapt to changing requirements
* Self‑motivated, reliable, and punctual
