Senior Design Engineer - Aerospace
Location: Gloucestershire (Hybrid - typically 3 days on site once settled)
Contract Duration: initial 6months with potential of extension
Start Date: As soon as possible
Working Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday, with early finish Fridays)
Pay Rates (PAYE):
- £35-£38 per hour + holiday accrual OR
- £40.00-£43.78 per hour including holiday pay

We are recruiting for a leading aerospace engineering organisation specialising in the design, development, and manufacture of aircraft landing gear systems for both civil and military aircraft. Their products operate in some of the most demanding environments in aviation, and they pride themselves on delivering robust, high-quality engineering solutions across the full product life-cycle.
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and detailing of efficient landing gear systems, supporting products from initial concept through to manufacture and in-service support. The role requires close collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and programme teams to ensure customer and regulatory requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Support all aspects of concept through to detailed design across the full landing gear product life-cycle
- Contribute to and manage product configuration activities
- Utilise modern engineering tools including CAD, 3D modelling, 2D draughting, and data management systems
- Produce designs that meet exacting customer requirements and aerospace industry standards
- Deliver technical presentations to internal and external customers
- Interface with design team members, Chief Engineers, Programme Management, Manufacturing, and colleagues at other company sites
- Work closely with manufacturing to reduce non‑conformances and support production improvements
- Liaise with other locations to assist with offloading packages of design work
- Progress toward and work within Design Check Signatory responsibilities
- Provide mentoring and coaching to junior engineers within the team
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline
- Strong knowledge of design and manufacturing processes, ideally within aerospace
- Fully conversant with traditional and computerised design and analysis methods
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- General computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
- Experience using CAD systems (CATIA V5 preferred; training available)
- Understanding of configuration management principles
Desirable
- Previous aerospace engineering experience
- Experience owning and delivering design work packages
- GD&T training
- Good knowledge of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes
