A North London local authority is seeking an experienced Principal Parking Engineer to lead the delivery of parking and Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) schemes across the borough. This is a senior, hands‑on role with responsibility for managing a small team and acting as the primary point of contact for all parking‑scheme related matters.
The role combines scheme design, oversight of delivery, stakeholder liaison, and supervision of junior staff, alongside attendance at site as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the lead officer and first point of contact for parking schemes and CPZ‑related matters
- Manage and deliver CPZs and other parking‑related schemes from design through to implementation
- Oversee and supervise a small team of engineers and junior staff, providing technical guidance and support
- Produce and review parking layouts and design drawings using AutoCAD
- Manage and deliver minor works programmes, including new and amended disabled parking bays
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, elected members, and external partners as required
- Undertake site visits to support scheme delivery, inspections, and issue resolution
- Ensure schemes are delivered in line with relevant legislation, guidance, and borough standards
Skills & Experience Required
- Substantial experience in parking engineering within a local authority environment
- Strong working knowledge of CPZ design, consultation, and implementation
- Experience supervising or leading staff at engineer level or below
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Good understanding of parking legislation, Traffic Management Act, and relevant guidance
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple schemes and priorities simultaneously
Working Arrangements
- Hybrid working model: minimum two days per week on‑site
- Some site‑based work required as part of scheme delivery
