Freelance Site Engineer - £350-£380 per day
Location: Peterborough Contract Length: 6 Months
Role Overview
The Site Engineer will support the delivery of construction activities by ensuring high standards of health & safety, technical compliance, quality assurance, and site coordination. This freelance role requires a proactive and organised individual capable of managing engineering duties, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the site management team throughout the project lifecycle.
Core Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Compliance
Lead by example in full compliance with all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
Supervise site personnel and activities as directed by the line manager.
Ensure all site staff and plant operators hold the required training, competencies, and accreditations.
Confirm all plant and equipment are fit for purpose with valid test certificates.
Implement company Health & Safety policies on site.
Ensure all workforce members have appropriate PPE.
Liaise with the Safety Department for specialist advice.
Conduct safety inspections, close out actions, and provide copies to the line manager.
Monitor site activities to maintain safe working practices and conditions at all times.
Report all near misses, unsafe conditions, and Health & Safety infringements.
Ensure compliance with Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
Deliver site inductions and toolbox talks.
Brief Method Statements and Risk Assessments as required.
Maintain up‑to‑date inspection records for work areas and plant.
Technical & Quality Responsibilities (Peterborough Projects)
Manage drawings and specifications for site use, ensuring the latest revisions are available.
Maintain accurate and clear as‑built records.
Oversee and maintain site records.
Manage quality processes for subcontract packages, including quality sheets, specifications, materials, and compliance with ITPs.
Raise and manage Technical Queries.
Prepare material requisitions (subject to Site Manager approval).
Maintain a detailed and up‑to‑date site diary.
Plan works in accordance with the latest construction programme.
Act as Temporary Works Supervisor where appointed.
Collate information for ITPs, O&M manuals, and compile the Health & Safety file.
Prepare and issue Permits to Dig and Hot Works Permits, including closure.
Manage and supervise subcontract packages as directed by the line manager.
Prepare appendices for the Construction Phase Plan.
Raise and issue Early Warning Notices (EWN) to the client and QS.
Key Attributes
