Empowering the Next Generation of STEM Innovators with the Launch of the Materna Fund
Celebrating 40 Years of Innovation and Community Impact
Matchtech, a trailblazer in STEM recruitment UK, is marking a major milestone - 40 years of connecting people with careers in engineering and technology. From our humble beginnings as Matchmaker, founded by George Materna, we've grown into an international powerhouse, placing over 250,000 individuals and transforming the industry.
Through all the market shifts, we’ve never drifted from our core: supporting people and careers, making STEM opportunities reachable for everyone. Under the visionary leadership of CEO Matthew Wragg, we’re launching the Materna Fund at the University of Portsmouth, a leap forward in our commitment to nurturing future STEM talent, promoting social mobility, and providing support for engineering students UK.
What is the Materna Fund?
The Materna Fund is designed to empower the next generation of STEM leaders. It offers £2,500 scholarships each year to two undergraduate students in the BEng (Hons) Engineering and Technology with Foundation Year program at the University of Portsmouth. By easing financial pressures, the fund allows students to focus on their studies, unlock their potential, and make the most of the bursary terms and conditions.
Dr. Anton Hettiarachchige Don, Course Leader at the University of Portsmouth, noted, “For most students, this programme offers a second chance to pursue their dream of becoming engineers. The extra financial support provided by the Materna Fund can make all the difference, allowing them to concentrate on their academic journey and seize this valuable opportunity.”
Continuing George Materna’s Legacy of Giving Back
The Materna Fund is more than cash. It’s a commitment to STEM social mobility initiatives. It strengthens our partnerships with organizations like The Talent Tap, bridging STEM career paths for underrepresented youth, and sponsors wellbeing projects like Foothold and Friends of PICU.
Matthew Wragg, Matchtech’s CEO, asserts, “George always wanted to build a company with a strong culture that truly made a difference in people’s lives. The Materna Fund is a testament to his vision and reflects our ongoing commitment to nurturing talent, fostering success, and providing ongoing support for engineering students UK.”
Why the Materna Fund Matters for the Future of STEM
This launch isn’t just an initiative; it’s a movement. By investing in budding STEM talent through engineering student scholarships UK and the Materna Fund University of Portsmouth, Matchtech is enriching the engineering and technology sectors, shaping tomorrow's workforce.
In an era where profit and purpose should coexist, Matchtech is the beacon. We don’t just aim for recruitment leadership; we’re pivotal in nurturing Europe’s next generation of STEM innovators.
Looking Forward: A Bright Future for STEM Talent
Matchtech’s roadmap is clear: We’re unwavering in our support of the STEM community. Be it through educational funding, mentorship, or career pathways, we’re making a tangible impact.
