The Path to a Sustainable Future

Gattaca becomes one of few organisations in the recruitment sector to have both Near-Term and Net-Zero science-based climate targets validated by the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

In an era where environmental consciousness and sustainable practices are at the forefront of global discussions, businesses are increasingly recognising the need to align their operations with science-based targets to address climate change and environmental challenges.

We are thrilled to share that Gattaca has taken a significant leap forward in solidifying our commitment to a sustainable future by successfully setting science-based targets aligned with a 1.5°C pathway. We now join a rapidly growing global community of 4,781 organisations who have targets approved.

This milestone is testament to our dedication towards helping to build a resilient and sustainable future for generations to come and also positions us as a sustainable leader within the recruitment sector.

What are science based targets?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global corporate climate action body enabling companies to set ambitions emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. Their goal is to accelerate businesses across the world to support the global economy to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero before 2050. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets. Achieving validated targets involves a rigorous and transparent process to ensure feasibility and accountability.

What does this mean for us?

Embracing science-based targets and aligning with global climate goals is a significant milestone in our commitment to a sustainable future and reducing our carbon footprint. However, we fully recognise that we (like most organisations) are still near the beginning of this continuous improvement journey. We are now committed to actioning and reporting on meaningful and incremental changes each year in order to meet our targets. Our strategies include furthering investment in renewable energy sources, enhancing energy efficiency, and collaborating with suppliers, amongst other areas.

This process is relevant for ALL business sectors, both the high and low-emitters and everyone in between!

We are constantly aware that our climate journey, as a professional services business, is inevitably simpler than for organisations in many other sectors, including our STEM client base. However, the world must reach Net Zero no later than 2050 - and in order to drive systemic and transformational change, organisations in all sectors must act. We have been inspired and encouraged to act by the green innovation and change that we see within many of our clients – and likewise, we hope that our actions will inspire others within our networks to follow suit.   As a business within the professional services sector, it is easy to feel that your actions are ‘not enough’, however it is only by all acting – and collaborating – that we will create lasting positive change for our planet and future generations.

Direct emissions reductions (decarbonisation) is the first and most critical pillar within our environmental strategy.

We are also committed to compensating for some of our currently unavoidable emissions through supporting STEM-related carbon offsetting projects. In addition, as a STEM focused recruitment business, we are a key provider of the engineering and technology talent required to innovate and drive towards a greener future. We are focused on growing our impact in this skills-short area and supporting our clients’ green journeys.

Collaboration is a critical component of our full sustainability / ESG strategy.
