Our client, a prominent entity in the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a highly experienced and strategically driven Head of Design to join their team. This pivotal role will be based in either Teesside or Bournemouth, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. The successful applicant will be responsible for the professional leadership of the Initial Airworthiness Design Office, ensuring adherence to all applicable aviation regulations and international standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the Initial Airworthiness Design Office and ensuring compliance with all applicable aviation regulations and international standards
- Providing strategic and operational accountability for the delivery of services by the Design Office
- Managing and directing multiple teams of engineers to achieve business objectives
- Maintaining up-to-date Regulatory Expositions and related documentation
- Ensuring thorough compliance monitoring systems across all design office areas
- Providing guidance and support to the Design Office Direct Reporting Team
- Ensuring all personnel are trained, competent and equipped for their roles
- Driving a culture of safety, excellence, continuous improvement, and ethical behaviour
- Managing succession planning and developing talent within the team
- Ensuring robust First and Second Lines of Defence Compliance (Quality) systems are in place
Job Requirements:
- Extensive experience in a similar role within the aerospace industry
- Expert knowledge of Commercial Aircraft Management principles and practices
- Thorough understanding of CAA/EASA (Part 21, DAOS, Part 145)
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 standards as applicable in aviation
- Familiarity with Safety Management System principles and requirements
- Experience in people and cultural change management
- Engineering Degree
- Postgraduate-level Business and/or Management Qualification (advantageous)
- Eligibility to hold Regulatory Accountable Manager / CEO responsibilities for DOA, DAOS, and DAOS-CDO
- Eligibility for Security Check (SC) and Developed Vetting (DV) level security clearances
- Significant experience as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE)
- Membership as a Fellow of a Professional Engineering Institution (e.g., Royal Aeronautical Society) (advantageous)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the (UK) Engineering Council (advantageous)
- Proficiency with MS Office Software and other relevant tools
- Excellent communication, organisational, and time management skills
- High levels of integrity, work ethic, and confidentiality
