Highways Site Engineer - Sheffield

The Castlegate regeneration is transforming the former Castle Market site into a major new public park, reopening the long‑covered River Sheaf and revealing the remains of Sheffield Castle for the first time in centuries. The project includes significant earthworks, installation of large pre‑cast culverts, and complex de‑culverting and structural works within a constrained city‑centre environment.

The Role

We're seeking a Highways / Civil Engineer to help deliver key infrastructure across this high‑profile regeneration scheme. You'll support structural works, temporary works, site access improvements, and coordination with archaeological teams as historic remains are exposed and preserved.

About You

  • Experience in civil or highways engineering, ideally with temporary works, culvert structures, or urban regeneration.
  • Strong safety awareness and coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support de‑culverting operations, including safe removal of concrete roof slabs and temporary structural bracing installations.
  • Assist in the installation of large pre‑cast culverts lifted into place by heavy crane operations.
  • Contribute to enabling works, demolition, and creation of new pedestrian and public‑realm routes within the future park.
