Role details:
Our client, a key player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Basildon. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge equipment for next-generation Missile Seeker Programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support senior staff in delivering technical solutions for critical Business Programmes
- Generate mechanical solutions to company and international standards
- Design engineering solutions considering product quality, safety, reliability, and sustainability
- Perform detailed mechanical engineering design, including numerical calculations and tolerance studies
- Produce Manufacturing Data Packs in line with BS8888, applying GD&T
- Generate Bill of Materials (BoM) within an approved PLM system (Teamcenter)
- Review Mechanical designs according to business and industry standards
- Deliver design solutions that meet Technical Requirements, budget, and timelines
Job Requirements:
- Technical or science degree qualified, or equivalent experience
- Mechanical engineering for Electronic Products, including Electro-Optics (EO)
- Proficiency in PTC Creo for mechanical design and development
- Experience in structural design and performing 'first pass' analyses
- Knowledge of electrical screening, grounding, and opto-mechanical sub-assemblies for EO products
- Detail and assembly drawing generation in accordance with BS8888
- Experience in numerical calculations and tolerance studies
- Understanding of material applications and process finishes for EO products
- Design of Jigs, Fixtures, and Tooling for Aerospace/Defence sector EO products
- Ability to collaborate within a multi-discipline Integrated Project Team (IPT)
- Knowledge of Cable Harness design, including connector selection and strain relief methods
- Understanding of various aspects of Design for Excellence (DfX), including Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, Integration, and Sustainability
- Experience in high-performing multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable:
- Capability to perform 'first pass' Thermal analyses
