We are seeking an experienced PTS Engineer on a freelance contract basis (Outside IR35) to provide technical engineering and surveying services on major rail and civil infrastructure projects.
This role is delivery‑focused and autonomous, suited to an established contractor who can take responsibility for day‑to‑day engineering control on site, provide specialist technical input, and work independently to programme and client requirements. Worksite could be based at various locations around the UK so the right candidate will need to be flexible with work location.
Scope of Services
The successful contractor will be engaged to deliver engineering and surveying services including, but not limited to:
Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Setting out and verification of works
- High‑accuracy surveying for piling, RC works, drainage, structures, and earthworks
- Interpretation of design information, specifications, and bar schedules
- Engineering support for piling installations (CHS, augered, OLE foundations)
- Monitoring surveys and movement checks where required
- Compilation and submission of as‑built survey data
Site & Project Interface
- Technical liaison with client representatives and designers
- Raising and closing Technical Queries
- Coordination with site teams to enable works to progress efficiently
- Attending planning and coordination meetings as required
- Providing regular progress and technical updates to the Project Manager
Documentation & QA
- Preparation and completion of ITPs, task briefings, and engineering records
- Producing drawings and data in AutoCAD
- Maintaining accurate records using Excel and Word
- Delivering survey outputs to rail/highways standards
Project Environment
Typical works may include:
- Rail infrastructure projects (lineside civils, platform works, OLE foundations, monitoring etc)
- Bridge strengthening and underpinning
- Drainage and deep civils
- Earthworks and remediation
Essential Contractor Experience
- Proven experience operating as a Senior Engineer or Engineering Surveyor
- Strong background in rail and/or highways infrastructure
- Confident, independent delivery of site engineering services
- Expert use of Leica and/or Trimble total stations
- Experience delivering as-built surveys to recognised standards
- Solid understanding of safe systems of work in controlled environments
- Competent in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word
- Able to plan and execute works with minimal supervision
