Freelance Construction Site Agent

Location: Bedford
Day Rate: £400 - £450 per day


Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Construction Site Agent to support the delivery of highway construction and planned works schemes. You will play a key role in managing site operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality and compliance standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise construction schemes on-site, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant delivery
  • Plan and coordinate labour, materials, plant, and subcontractor resources
  • Liaise with key stakeholders including network managers, local authorities, designers, and community representatives
  • Ensure Construction Phase Plans, method statements, and safe systems of work are implemented and adhered to
  • Maintain high health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) standards at all times
  • Ensure all personnel (direct and subcontract) are competent and appropriately trained
  • Take responsibility for the commercial performance of schemes, working closely with commercial teams
  • Maintain accurate site records, including diaries, progress updates, resource allocation, and as-built documentation
  • Support programme development, phasing plans, and construction methodologies
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with supply chain partners
  • Contribute to buildability reviews, Early Contractor Involvement, and traffic management planning
  • Participate in value engineering and value management processes
  • Ensure compliance with organisational procedures, standards, and reporting requirements

Skills & Experience Required

Qualifications

  • IOSH or SMSTS (essential)
  • CSCS card (essential)
  • HNC / Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (desirable)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
