Our client, a major player in the highways sector, is currently seeking a Commercial Manager to join their dedicated team in the Berkshire region. This role involves leading commercial operations across a significant highways framework contract, ensuring that financial efficiency, contractual compliance, and value optimisation are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all commercial and contractual aspects of highways and infrastructure projects
- Manage cost control, forecasting, and reporting to ensure financial targets are met
- Lead contract negotiations, variations, and dispute resolution
- Collaborate with local councils and public sector clients, maintaining strong working relationships
- Provide commercial guidance to project teams during delivery, procurement, and planning stages
- Ensure compliance with relevant contract forms (e.g., NEC) and industry standards
- Mentor and support junior commercial staff where applicable
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities to maximise project value
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Strong background in highways, highway maintenance, infrastructure, and transportation
- Experience working on framework contracts, preferably with local authorities
- In-depth knowledge of commercial management processes and contract law
- Strong financial acumen and reporting capability
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- Membership of RICS/CICES (or working towards) is desirable
