A contract opportunity for an experienced Electrical Systems Contract Engineer with proven Motorsport and Automotive domain experience. This opportunity involves leading the development of technical areas or subsystems within motorsport electrical systems, providing technical expertise, and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own delivery of significant work packages or subsystems within motorsport projects.
- Develop and validate engineering designs, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Lead the capture, definition, and management of complex system requirements following INCOSE best practices.
- Define and maintain system-level KPIs, balancing performance, safety, and reliability.
- Mentor and support engineers within the team.
- Lead problem-solving and root-cause investigations.
- Interface with other disciplines to ensure design integration and coherence.
- Provide input to project planning, scheduling, and risk management.
- Develop system architectures and assist with the creation of EDS schematics with tools like Visio and VeSys.
- Perform creepage and clearance, short-circuit and arc flash calculations.
- Create manufacturing packs and test procedures; support acceptance tests.
- Support HIL rig, and on-vehicle testing, guiding root cause analysis and correlation of test results to design intent.
- Work closely with controls and embedded software teams to define system-level software interfaces, calibration strategies, and version control across builds.
- Lead hazard analyses, DFMEAs, and compliance reviews, ensuring adherence to motorsport electrical standards and HV safety regulations.
- Define and control Interface Control Documents (ICDs), including CAN DBCs, ensuring alignment between the battery system, inverter, BMS, cooling, and chassis subsystems.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Electrical, Mechatronic, or Systems Engineering.
- Experience in motorsports and/or advanced engineering electrical systems development and application is preferred.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and electrical CAD tools.
- Deep understanding of BMS architecture, contactor control, and power system design principles.
- Good understanding of on-vehicle networks.
- Knowledge of embedded systems interaction and CAN-based architectures.
- Proven experience in system or component-level design.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of configuration, safety, and quality systems.
- Experience in leading small teams or technical tasks.
- Experience of Requirements Capture Tools, such as Siemens Polarion or IBM Rational Doors.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as System Monitor, Atlas, and CANalyser.
- Understanding of functional safety and ISO26262.
