Our client is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a contract position within the nuclear sector. This role is based in Warrington, and involves a blended working arrangement, typically two or three days in the office with the rest at home. The successful applicant will play a vital role in delivering high-quality engineering design solutions for nuclear projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • For assigned work packages, produce engineering design deliverables that satisfy legal and functional requirements while meeting time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Deliver safe, fit-for-purpose, and fully integrated design solutions that meet product requirements.
  • Produce design deliverables that provide integrated solutions aligning with specified requirements, including validation and verification.
  • Ensure design solutions can be manufactured, constructed, commissioned, handed over, maintained, and decommissioned effectively.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the use of AutoDesk Inventor and AutoDesk Vault (Basis or Vault Pro) for file management.
  • Familiarity with GPS ISO (BS 8888).
  • Experience in supporting the resolution of manufacturing, inspection, and test technical queries, including the production of permits and concessions.
  • Ability to manage and direct designers in delivering mechanical plant and equipment drawings and documents.
  • Experience in plant layout, setup, installation, and alignment of plant equipment and machinery for testing and installation.
  • Experience in writing and checking test requirement documentation for plant, equipment, and machinery.
  • Capability to support office-based working arrangements and willingness to visit suppliers' premises, potentially including overseas travel.

Desirables:

  • Experience and working knowledge of safety cases.
  • Awareness of SL Engineering Standards and Specifications.
  • Experience in checking manufacturing drawings.
  • Ability to retrieve information from DM desktop and other record management systems.
  • Experience in designing within a nuclear environment.
  • Knowledge of Alpha glovebox design principles for containment.
  • Experience in the design and integration of machinery in accordance with SoMSR (Standards for Mechanical Safety Requirements).
  • Understanding of CDM (Construction Design and Management), SoMSR, PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations), and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations).
