Job description
Join a Team That's Advancing Patient Care Through Innovation
We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineer to join our Ashford-based team, contributing to the design and development of cutting-edge medical devices. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of technical projects, lead small engineering teams, and make a tangible impact in the medical field.
About the Role
As an R&D Engineer, you will independently lead and execute engineering activities across the full product lifecycle-from concept through to design, testing, and launch. You will work on components, systems, and processes associated with medium-to-large-scale projects, applying advanced technical knowledge and guiding less experienced engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of innovative medical device components and systems
- Conduct and oversee testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities
- Prepare high-quality technical documentation and design files (including CAD)
- Ensure compliance with internal SOPs and external regulatory requirements
- Mentor and support junior engineers on the team
- Interface with cross-functional teams (e.g., Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, GPM)
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience:
- A degree in Engineering (or related discipline); advanced degree preferred
- 5-8 years of engineering experience, ideally in medical devices or regulated industries
- Proven ability to independently manage projects and lead technical teams
Technical & Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- High proficiency with CAD tools and design methodologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time-management skills
- Collaborative, proactive, and quality-focused approach
What We Offer
- A competitive salary of £50,000
- A hybrid working model (typically 2 days in the Ashford office)
- The chance to work in a growing company committed to improving patient outcomes
- Opportunities for professional development and career progression
- A supportive, innovation-driven environment

Why should you trust a specialist technical recruitment agency to find you your next role?
Using a specialist recruitment agency like Matchtech to find your next role is a smart move for a number of reasons. One of the main advantages is that it's a good way to cast your job searching net out wide. Does Matchtech take a cut of my pay if I use them to find my next job?
Absolutely not! We charge the end client for our services, not the candidate. So you can rest assured that there is no difference to your pay when being placed into a new role by Matchtech.
If I use a recruiter at Matchtech to find my next role, am I going to be bombarded with irrelevant job opportunities?
